BUPA standardises on Cognos 8 BI

2nd July 2006

BUPA, the international healthcare specialist, has selected Cognos 8 Business Intelligence as its standard for the company's reporting and analysis in its UK insurance division. Set to go live before the end of June, Cognos 8 BI will create standardised reports for the UK Insurance division, providing the business with a single view of the truth.

The Cognos 8 BI solution will replace a variety of legacy reporting tools, which include mainframe, Crystal , custom web reporting and older desktop Cognos versions. These reports will be used to support both operational and analytical functions across the division, providing visibility and insight into finance, sales and claims analysis.

The implementation is a key component of a larger BUPA initiative called the 'One Plan Programme', which will streamline the company's back-office functions. The One Plan Programme will enable BUPA to operate with more agility in the marketplace through easier access to information, as well as increase efficiency and reduce costs.

"We chose Cognos 8 BI to support the ethos of our One Plan Programme, after a rigorous competitive analysis of solutions," said Jeff Batten, systems architect at BUPA. "Cognos was selected for its unique capability to deliver traditional channelled reporting, as well as to provide support to an extensive analyst community. Cognos is now being implemented and integrated using its open web services, and this complements our drive to adopt systems aligned to principles of service-oriented architecture (SOA). Success implementing Cognos 8 BI will mean a capability to offer other BUPA business units a common enterprise service using Cognos 8."

"For BUPA, the advantage of Cognos 8 BI lies in its ability to provide a common Web-based reporting and analysis solution across all business units," said Graham Walter, vice-president of UK , Middle East and Africa at Cognos. "Giving BUPA's staff immediate access to accurate company data will ensure the best possible management of information within the organisation."
