EDF Energy chooses ClusterSeven for spreadsheet management
5th December 2005 EDF Energy has chosen software from ClusterSeven to support its compliance and continuity requirements. ClusterSeven's technology provides an automatic capture, management and reporting framework for spreadsheets allowing EDF Energy to improve the governance and control of spreadsheet activity. The software will be used by the company's energy trading branch to monitor its business critical spreadsheets.
EDF Energy uses spreadsheets to transfer data between enterprise applications and to provide a second level of data analysis for central systems. This is standard across the utility industry as spreadsheets can be adapted and developed quickly to meet the sector's complex and fast-moving business requirements. Without sufficient controls, this flexibility also poses risks to the business.
ClusterSeven's software will pinpoint who has made changes to critical spreadsheets and when they were made. It can also monitor changes as they happen, alerting administrators to irregularities by email. In addition, all critical spreadsheet activity and data will be captured in a database. This means that EDF Energy can revert to a previous version of a spreadsheet should it get corrupted.
