Quantrix announces development kit for financial modeling

11th August 2010

Quantrix  has released the Quantrix Development Kit (QDK), a modular platform that it says enables companies to develop customised business and financial modeling applications that are more flexible, scalable, and robust than traditional spreadsheet and business intelligence-based systems. It’s a bold claim and by no means unique but after looking at some of the demo footage FSN believes this is a product warranting further consideration.

Have a look at this initial model building demo which shows significant simplification over the spreadsheet based approach. It’s a view shared by Robert Kugel, CFA, SVP of Research, Ventana Research. “QDK enables businesses to develop enterprise-wide, collaborative applications that are far more flexible and reliable than spreadsheets, while far less difficult to build, deploy, and use than BI or planning tools,” says Robert Kugel, CFA, SVP of Research, Ventana Research. “Using Quantrix, companies have developed model-based solutions that are more detailed and tailored to their specific requirements in a fraction of the time, with far fewer people. Companies that do even moderately complex business planning and analysis should look into Quantrix.”

FSN particularly liked the way that traditional spreadsheet cell references give way to plain English labels which describe the data elements and make it easy for any user to comprehend how the model is working.  In fact a neat “dependency inspector” pane within the display allows a user to easily review the relationships nested within a model.
