Rosslyn Analytics has made available for the general public the UK government’s expenditure data recently published from HM Treasury’s Combined Online Information System (COINS). Using its cloud computing spend analytics platform the company has taken raw spend data and created a portal so that the public may view the government’s expenditure for the past two years. FSN readers can view the Government’s spend at https://rapidgateway.rapidintel.com. Rosslyn Analytics say that they will automatically refresh the platform with additional data HM Treasury publishes in the future.
Although the exercise is not politically motivated the company told FSN it has serious intent. “The release on Friday of the country’s public sector spend data is a wake-up call to everyone,” said Charles Clark, CEO of Rosslyn Analytics. The Prime Minister and the Chancellor began preparing the country for a period of “pain”. Why? Because slowly but surely the facts are beginning to seep out of the mountain of poor data the government creates. There is a saying ‘what you cannot measure you cannot manage’.”
But Rosslyn Analytics also embarked on this exercise to show-off the capabilities of its Rapidintel analytical platform which is designed to handle high volumes of multi-dimensional spend data and make it easily understood and accessible over the web. For example, 7 million lines of HM Treasury’s data were loaded into Rapidintel to create the public portal.
Talking to FSN, Hugh Cox, Rosslyn’s Chief Innovation Officer said, “What we do in a day takes most IT departments weeks of effort. We can aggregate data from multiple sources and for example have implemented our application over entire SAP systems to provide a single repository and reporting environment for all categories of spend. Where we go further is to formalise savings and embed that in the application.”
“Organisations that use Rapidintel achieve faster and more sustainable savings than those that rely on on-premise solutions or Excel-based analysis. The reason is because the platform quickly centralizes, categorises and enriches all operational spend in days without the need to install software or employ consultants”, he added.
