BAE SYSTEMS Surface Fleet Solutions selects CODA finance system in £600,000 contract
26th November 2007 BAE Systems Surface Fleet Solutions has signed a contract for financial software and services worth in excess of £600,000 with CODA Group, the finance software specialist. needed to replace its aging ERP software and selected manufacturing application, MARS from Danish company Logimatic. However, since it focuses on Planning, Materials and Quality, a separate finance system was needed to integrate with it for project depth analysis. CODA was chosen over Oracle Financials after both applications had undergone proof of concept testing.
BAE Systems Surface Fleet Solutions (SFS) provides a complete through life naval capability from design and build of surface fleet vessels through to in-service support, upgrade and disposal. Its design and build activity is concentrated in Glasgow , working closely with partners from across the UK and overseas. Surface Fleet Solutions is currently building six T45 Class Destroyers, two Aircraft Carriers and is active on a number of other key export contracts.
“CODA demonstrated through proof of concept that its Financials software could deliver the integration we require,” said John Stewart, Financial Systems Manager at BAE. “Integration was the key to selection as it was vital the new finance system could integrate with our new specialist software called MARS for enhanced reporting, budgeting, forecasting and planning capabilities. In addition to tight integration, we wanted a finance system that could provide detailed project analysis in addition to financial reporting and CODA showed us they could deliver this. The software is flexible and customisable and we believe it offers value for money over a financial module that is part of an ERP suite. We plan to be up and running on the system by April 2008.”
BAE Systems SFS underwent a thorough systems evaluation over a one-year period. During this time, CODA put in place a test environment for its software which proved it could meet the critical business requirements. In addition to Financials from CODA, the company has purchased licenses for CODA reporting and invoice matching, as well as Cognos planning and business intelligence software.
