End-O-Line helps Business Link spread environmental advice
3rd July 2006 IT equipment recycling experts End-O-Line Services (EOLS) helped over 80 businesses from across Essex understand how to make their companies more environmentally friendly in order to stay on the right side of the law.
EOLS was invited by Business Link to share its expertise at an event designed to provide companies with a greater understanding of the impact of the WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) Directive. This comes into effect early next year.
The WEEE Directive aims to reduce the amount of electrical and electronic equipment going into landfill sites and sets criteria for alternative treatment, recycling and recovery.
End-O-Line, which has been helping companies to recycle redundant equipment for the past 10 years, was in the line-up to pass on the essential information companies need to ensure they will be compliant when WEEE is introduced. They were supported by Giraffe Innovation which specialises in environmental legislation, Remade, Envirowise, The Environment Partnership and Green Cartridges.
EOLS Client Services Director Dan Smith said: “The high attendance and excellent feedback from the event shows that businesses recognise they need to know more about the WEEE Directive so they can start taking steps before it is introduced.
“We also stressed that they need to consider how they will achieve complete erasure of all the data on their computer equipment before it is recycled. In many cases the software which businesses use in-house makes it look as if the files have been erased but in fact they can still be recovered.”
David Wright of Business Link Essex, said: ‘'The WEEE Directive is an important new piece of legislation in bringing about a greener future for UK businesses. This event was essential in ensuring that companies in Essex are fully aware of their environmental responsibilities for next year, whilst providing an informal platform for picking up useful hints and tips on making your business more environmentally friendly''.
