5th June 2006 With Green Week taking place across Europe , last week Fujitsu Siemens Computers, the European IT manufacturer, has launched two unique energy-conscious ESPRIMO professional PCs enabling up to 23 per cent reduction in electricity use.
The launch marks another important step forward for the company's green PC strategy, which is based on the use of environmentally conscious materials, resource-saving production techniques and low power consumption.
Fujitsu Siemens Computers says it has witnessed a rise in demand from IT managers for power-saving PCs - prompted by rising energy prices - but also by a growing number of self-confessed ‘Green Collar Workers' that demand greener standards from employers. Indeed recent research from the company found that 37% of UK employees are actively lobbying for greener company polices. The company hopes that European Green Week will give Green Collar Workers another opportunity to extol the virtues of going green to their employers.
The new ESPRIMO PCs will be available as of mid June 2006 with guide prices starting at £439 (ex. VAT).
Comparison tests with predecessor models with comparable configurations have demonstrated that 100 users with ESPRIMO E5615 with AMD processors can have annual power savings of up to £6800. Customers who also use Fujitsu Siemens Computers monitors with patented Switched Monitor Outlet, which controls the electricity supply via the PC, achieve further savings of around £750 per year.
“Fujitsu Siemens Computers stands for exceptionally resource-friendly production methods and environmentally-sustainable products,” commented Peter Esser, Executive Vice President Volume Products & Supply Operations at Fujitsu Siemens Computers. “In March 2001, we presented a Green PC with the first lead-free mainboard, and our professional PCs und notebooks have complied with the RoHS guidelines restricting the use of hazardous substances since January, even though they do not go into effect until July. The remarkably energy-conscious ESPRIMO models mark the continuation of our strategy to go above and beyond the environmental standards typical to the market or required by law.”
Fujitsu Siemens Computers has also introduced a new housing, which incorporates a more efficient cooling system. As a result, the drives no longer require an additional fan. The bottom line is that they consume even less energy.
