PrecisionPoint Software brings “BI for the masses” to the Microsoft Dynamics market

19th April 2010

PrecisionPoint Software has announced that its Business Warehouse for Dynamics AX (BW4AX), an off-the-shelf data warehouse for self-service analysis and management reporting is now Certified for Microsoft Dynamics AX, in addition to Dynamics NAV.

PrecisionPoint Software founder and president, Dr Nigel Geary, told FSN, “We are delighted to be the first Business Intelligence partner and product to be Certified for Microsoft Dynamics AX. PrecisionPoint Software has spent over 7 years working on solving the last major barrier to mass adoption of Business Intelligence by mid-market ERP customers – the need to create a trusted analytic database, or data warehouse, without specialist BI staff or consultants.”

PrecisionPoint Software was formed in 2002 to focus exclusively on Business Intelligence solutions for Microsoft Dynamics customers and partners.  Based on the full Microsoft BI platform PrecisionPoint Business Warehouse for Dynamics sets the gold standard for this segment.  Nigel Geary adds, “Competitors aspiring to enter the Dynamics BI market are limited to simple ‘cube builders,’ often with proprietary BI front-ends, requiring significant training and development for the customer or partner.  However these vendors cannot provide the ‘balanced-to-the-penny’ data integrity, audit, reconciliation and monitoring engineered into PrecisionPoint’s off-the-shelf products.”

Stan Wyngowski, Director of Finance at Lantmannen Unibake USA in Lisle, IL, said, “PrecisionPoint works out of the box and has saved us 9 to 18 months of development time.  We tried the traditional approach using the Atlas add-in for Excel, but we upgraded to PrecisionPoint BW for Dynamics AX once we saw how much faster and more powerful a full Microsoft BI solution could be.  PrecisionPoint was able to show us a working demonstration applying our own Dynamics AX production environment database which convinced us beyond all doubt that it would work for us.”

The PrecisionPoint data model also integrates Finance, Sales and Operations data at the lowest possible level to ensure that cross-functional business performance reports and metrics, like margin and profitability, are based on one version of the truth and have a common source of proof across the enterprise.

Catherine Dean, CFO of West Central, Inc. in Willmar, MN, a PrecisionPoint customer on Dynamics AX 2009, summarized their decision to implement PrecisionPoint by saying, “The native reconciliation of the sub-ledgers with the general ledger to ensure that the numbers match, the drill down capability to view supporting transactions plus the familiar Excel user interface made PrecisionPoint an easy decision.  We also like the use of standard Microsoft Tools for BI deployment to a wider community on our SharePoint website rather than the proprietary BI tools that other products have developed.  The knowledge and commitment of the PrecisionPoint staff along with a working demonstration using our own Dynamics AX data gave us a high level of confidence that they would make sure we had a successful implementation.”

“By requiring both the software solution and the partner to meet our highest standards, Microsoft is assuring customers that these certified solutions work with their investments in Microsoft Dynamics,” said Doug Kennedy, vice president, Microsoft Dynamics Partners. “Microsoft congratulates PrecisionPoint Software on achieving the ‘Certified for Microsoft Dynamics AX’ status for Business Warehouse for Dynamics AX by demonstrating its success and commitment in delivering a leading Microsoft Dynamics solution.”
