Topaz has won a contract to supply its financials package to Phoenix International Freight Services Ltd. The Topaz system's advanced credit control and ability to integrate with the FCL freight forwarding solution helped to beat off competition from other mid-market accounting suppliers and build on recent logistics contract successes with Woodland International, Hurst Transport and MSC.
Phoenix International Freight Services Ltd is the UK arm of Chicago-based Phoenix International, a large privately owned freight forwarding business in the United States , with 51 offices world wide, including 22 in the US and a further 22 in Asia . Formerly known as Derwent Freight Services Ltd and based at Nottingham East Midlands Airport – where it was previously the agent for Phoenix International for 20 years - the UK operation was acquired by its American parent almost three years ago.
As well as East Midlands Airport , Phoenix International Freight Services has offices in London , Birmingham , Bristol and Manchester – and since the takeover the turnover has doubled to £12 million.
This rapid expansion substantially increased the workload on the previous bespoke financial system and a decision was made early this year to upgrade the accounting functions of the company and also extend this to payroll. Topaz Financials was chosen after because it met key objectives in the area of credit control and integration with FCL freight forwarding software as well as Email functionality and management reporting.
"We felt the management reporting was exceptionally good and will make life easier when reporting to the US ," said Roger Bates, Phoenix 's Company Secretary.
