Research commissioned by global IT and BPO services provider Patni Computer Systems shows that increased confidence in outsourcing will lead to increased use of outsourced IT services in 2010.The third instalment of the Patni Pulse research among UK IT directors shows a 10% increase in those leaders who report increased confidence in outsourcing. 4 out of 5 directors feel that even amidst recession, outsourcing still delivers financial value.
The research, repeated in March, June and December charts a significant increase in the expectation that the use of outsourced IT services will rise – from 40% in March to 48% in December.
Access to skills remains the main driver of plans to increase outsourcing. However the level of service received from outsourcing providers has remained another key factor in this confidence, cited by 54% of respondents.
Jeremy Mackinlay, marketing director, Patni explains what this will mean for businesses in 2010: “As the recession hit, many industry watchers wondered if outsourcing could find a role as businesses reduced costs or innovated their way out of the tougher economic climate. The good news is that outsourcing has clearly delivered value and looks set for continued growth in 2010.
“However, it is clear that increased service delivery and the provision of skills will be criteria on which future success rests. Outsourcing providers will need to ensure they have access to the right talent – so recruitment and retention will be the big stories next year.
“Cost remains a sensitive issue for 50% of those interviewed but as long as outsourcing continues to deliver improved service, it will carry on and proving its financial value to the UK and beyond.”
