Is it time to ditch the term - ‘Last Mile’ of finance? I ask because there is considerable focus on what happens to financial reporting in the post-consolidation phase but the notion that the task can ever be complete seems so misplaced. A constant string of regulatory and stakeholder requirements continue to heap pressure on the reporting supply chain and I doubt that we will ever be in a position to consider that the job is complete.  In other words there is nothing final about the Last Mile and to be truthful I can’t even see the finish line! Technology too is influencing the direction of the final throes of financial reporting.  I’m not just referring to the more obvious developments such as XBRL and iXBRL but also the inevitable influence of social media and mobile on the way that we interact with group reporting systems. So I would like to see the term ‘Last Mile of Finance’ removed from our phrase book? How about you? If you have a view, please tell me about it.   gary.simon@fsn.co.uk
